Thai (yoga) massage
traditional Thai massage (TTM) is a massage technique known in
Thailand under the Thai name Nuad Phaen Boran (Thai: นวด
which means "ancient healing touch". In the Western
European area, she also calls herself a Thai yoga massage. The Thai
massage consists of passive stretching positions and stretching
movements taken from yoga, joint mobilizations and pressure point
massages. Ten selected energies (Thai: สิบ
sip sen), which according to aryurvedic doctrine traverse the body as
an energetic net, are worked over gentle stretching and with the
rhythmic pressure of hand, thumb, knee, elbow and feet. The Thai
massage takes place on a floor mat. Traditionally it takes about 2 ½
hours, including preliminary talks and rest periods.
to traditional Asian doctrine
basis for the Thai massage is the ayurvedic system of the 72000
energy lines (nadis), of which the Thai massage ten (sip sen - สิบ
are processed. These energies, on the Marmapoints (energy points,
known as acupressure points in Japanese shiatsu), are supplied with
prana (life energy) according to aryurvedic doctrine. Prana can be
delivered to the body via breathing. In the stretching positions of
the Thai massage, the muscles use oxygen and the human being is
encouraged to breathe more deeply. Intensive pressure massages also
cause increased breathing. A deep breath stimulates relaxation and
regeneration (increased prana).
